FAQs
WHEN?
10:30-11:30am every Saturday morning during the school term.
WHERE?
KPS, 96 Rathmines Rd Upper, Rathmines, Dublin 6
CAN MY CHILD JOIN THE ACADEMY?
Children must be in junior infants class to join. Just get in touch with the academy organisers below mentor in advance to make sure that the Academy is on and that they’re aware that you’re coming along.
DO I NEED TO BE A MEMBER OF RANELAGH GAELS TO JOIN THE ACADEMY?
Yes. Your child must be a member of the club to join.
Membership information can be found on the Foireann website here:
https://www.foireann.ie/
WHAT KIT DOES MY CHILD NEED?
Track-suit and runners are fine initially. Football boots are better for grip, particularly in the winter months. And don’t forget plenty of layers, along with hats and gloves, it can get quite cold out on the pitch.
WHAT SHOULD THE CHILDREN BRING?
Mouth-guards (gumshields) are compulsory and must be worn. Ranelagh Gaels operates a ‘no mouth-guard, no play’ policy. It is up to each child’s parent or guardian to ensure that their child is wearing a mouth-guard. They can be purchased in most pharmacies.
Don’t forget a drink – water in a refillable bottle, marked with your child’s name, is best to ensure no plastic waste is left behind.
WHAT SHOULD I DO WHILE THE ACADEMY IS ON?
We insist that at least one parent or guardian stays around to keep an eye on their child while they are taking part in the Academy. Our Academy players are very young and can become upset easily, often requiring a loved one’s comfort.
A parent or guardian is required to assist when a child needs to go to the bathroom. Children needing a bathroom break must be accompanied by an adult and it isn’t practical for team mentors to leave the training area.
CAN I GET INVOLVED?
Absolutely!
We are always looking for new people to get involved as coaches. We provide all the support you will need to get you up and running even if you have never played a game of football or hurling before, as is the case for many of our coaches. Coaching your child’s team is a great way to bond and spend fun time with them. If coaching isn’t your thing, there are plenty other ways to get involved! Please get in touch if you can help out in any way.
